Mark Your Calendars! The Canada MS Walk is on May 29, 2022

On May 29, 2022, I will participate in my first MS Walk. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the events remain virtual this year. My plan is to complete a 10km run on the Thornton-Cookstown section of the Trans-Canada Trail. My husband plans to complete a 10-mile run (he’s faster than me).

I would love to have you join us for the MS Walk. How can you participate?

1.      You can donate here: https://msspwalk.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=11437

2.      You can join my team here: https://msspwalk.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.team&teamID=7172

3.      You can join us on May 29, 2022, to walk, run, or bike part of the Thornton-Cookstown section of the Trans-Canada Trail (we will start from Meadowland Blvd in Thornton at 9:30am and start running South for an out and back).

4.      You can walk, run, or bike anywhere in the world in the name of MS awareness (and be sure to post pictures and tag me @mslifeamongtheclouds and #mswalkcanada on Instagram).

For those who wish to join us for our MS Walk in Thornton, we will be celebrating the completion of our walks, runs, and/or bike rides at the Thornton Community Park (behind the arena), where there is a picnic area, excellent playground, and splash pad. Thornton is the ice cream capital of Simcoe County, with three ice cream parlours vying for ice cream supremacy. Our personal favourite is The Parlour, and their associated chip truck The Fry’s The Limit, which serves up the best poutine we’ve encountered outside of Quebec.

If lousy weather is in the forecast for May 29th, we will use Saturday May 28th and alternately Saturday June 4th as rain dates. I will keep everyone apprised of any date changes via my mailing list and Instagram.

Canada has the highest rate of Multiple Sclerosis in the world. Let that sink in for a minute. We have 291 people living with MS for every 100,000 people (as of 2015). The costs of MS to our public healthcare system are exorbitant. With your support and/or donation, you can help to further research towards better treatments, preventions, and hopefully, one day, a cure to this terrible disease.

If you have any questions about the MS Walk, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I hope that you can join us either in person or from afar in raising MS awareness!

For those interested in joining our event in person, the X marks the trail entrance that we will use as our starting point. We will run South from here for half of our planned distance and then double back. We will meet at the Thornton Community Park after our walks, runs, or bike rides for some treats (and likely some ice cream from The Parlour - yum!).
